Dubai: Commercial Bank of Dubai, a long-time sponsor of racing in the UAE, extends its association with Meydan Racecourse this season by offering a six-race card on Thursday.

The second meeting of the 2012/13 season at Meydan is one of two nights of racing sponsored by Commercial Bank of Dubai. The bank will next be seen at the state-of-the art track on February 28, 2013, during Meydan’s Dubai World Cup Carnival, when the Group 3 UAE Oaks represents the evening’s feature.

Chairman of the Racing Committee, Malih Al Basti, said: “Commercial Bank of Dubai provides invaluable support to the UAE racing industry and we are very happy to welcome the bank back to Meydan Racecourse this season.

“Commercial Bank of Dubai is involved in both domestic and international racing in Dubai, recognising the need to nurture racing at home as well as to help enhance Dubai’s worldwide reputation as an elite racing centre.”

Yaqoob Yousuf Hassan, Deputy Chief Executive of Commercial Bank of Dubai, added: “The much-awaited racing season is here once again and we at Commercial Bank of Dubai are delighted and proud to be a regular patron of Meydan Racing and the upcoming Dubai World Cup Carnival.

“Racing at Meydan has gained a lot of prominence and recognition locally as well as internationally over the years. Based on CBD’s vision that its role is not limited to just being a financial institution, social responsibility has been among one of CBD’s top priorities.

“As a responsible corporate citizen, Commercial Bank of Dubai gives back to society and the community by supporting community relations and sponsoring social, educational, cultural and sports events directed at the welfare and development of the country.

“On behalf of the bank, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dubai Racing Club and the Meydan Group for welcoming us to partner with them. Last, but not the least, we wish great success to all the racing competitors at this magnificent venue — Meydan.

“It is our sincere hope that the race fans and their families enjoy the racing season at Meydan, which will conclude with the world’s richest horse race, the Dubai World Cup, on March 31, 2013.”
