A $200,000 (Dh734,000) bonus is on offer to the top six trainers at the 2007 Dubai International Racing Carnival (DIRC), which kicked off yesterday.
Dubai: A $200,000 (Dh734,000) bonus is on offer to the top six trainers at the 2007 Dubai International Racing Carnival (DIRC), which kicked off yesterday.
Trainers will receive points during the first 10 race-nights of the DIRC from January 18 to March 8 (excluding the Dubai World Cup fixture on March 31).
There is $120,000 and a commemorative trophy on offer to the trainer with the most points, and prize-money goes down to the sixth highest earner, who collects $4,000.
In addition, awards will be presented to the owner, trainer and jockey who register most wins during the first 10 nights of the Dubai International Racing Carnival. The Dubai Racing Club also launched the 2007 Maktoum Challenge Bonus Programme - an exciting $150,000 initiative which takes in all three rounds of the series.
Horses earn points depending on their finishing position, from first down to sixth place.
The top earner's connections scoop $90,000, with the runner-up prize worth $37,500, while the third highest-points accumulator wins $22,500.
The winnings are split equally between trainer and owner.
To qualify for the $150,000 bonus, horses must compete in at least two rounds of the Maktoum Challenge, while a runner that does not win any of the rounds will be required to start in all three races to qualify for points.
