Dubai: Talented artists. a pioneering geologist and an exciting game of polo. There’s no better way to mark Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club’s annual celebration of the UAE National Day on Friday,

With the country’s flag comprising the pan-Arab colours of red, green, white and black flying proudly at the UAE’s only Royal Polo club the Abu Dhabi-based facility will host a polo match as the centrepiece of its activities.

Fans will be treated to some entertaining action when the Spirit of Union Polo Team take on The Year of Giving Polo Team in a game. Each of the teams will feature one professional player.

Argentina’s four goal player Matias Machado, will team up with Abdullah Bin Dasmal, Khaled Bin Drai and Rashid Al Bawardi in the Spirit of Union Polo Team as fellow countryman, Felipe Llorente, who also plays of a four-goal handicap, joins forces with Fahad Al Qubaisi, Ahmad Bin Dasmal and Yousuf Bin Dasmal in The Year of Giving Polo Team.

Llorente, who turned professional four years ago by following in the footsteps of his illustrious older brother Pablo, is a well-known player on the UAE polo circuit and has featured in many top tournaments.

“Last year I played in Dubai, which was a big step in my career,” he told horsealot.com. “The season was amazing. Spectacular organisation, great professional … there is nothing else to say.

“I came out grown up from this experience. It’s great to play with teammates who give you the best chance to be the best.”

The exhibition game will be held under the patronage of Shaikh Falah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club. Guests, students and artists from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will participate in the National Day celebrations.
