Dubai: Emotionless, Godolphin’s exciting juvenile who enjoys favouritism for next year’s Epsom Derby (G1), will be looking to demonstrate his general well-being when he performs a public gallop at Newmarket Racecourse ahead of his next assignment in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes (G1).

Trained by Charlie Appleby at Moulton Paddocks in Newmarket, England, the precocious son of Shamardal has posted two hugely impressive career victories, the most recent coming in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster where he won by 3½ lengths.

Emotionless is scheduled the gallop with two lead horses at around 8.30am, with Appleby closely monitoring his every stride from close quarters.

The attention to detail is understandable. Emotionless may well be the best horse Appleby has trained after Outstrip, who won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf for the Godolphin handler in 2013 and Middle Park hero Charming Thought (2014).

The Dewhurst is Britain’s most prestigious race for juvenile horses and offers a sneak look to next season’s Classics like the Guineas and Derby, for which Emotionless is a prominent player.

Shortly after Emotionless’ Doncaster romp Appleby said: “At this stage of his career he is the most exciting two-year-old we’ve had. Charming Thought went into the Middle Park as a 25/1 shot while Outstrip won in America (Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf), and as much as we thought he had a great chance he didn’t quite have the same sort of profile as this horse.

“It’s nice to have a horse that is second-favourite in the [2000] Guineas as we have never been in that position before.”

“Outstrip was a tough little horse who was more of a two-year-old type whereas Emotionless has a lot of scope as well as a lot of natural pace. He went straight from a maiden to a Group 2 and won very comfortably.

“He showed at Doncaster that he could handle some cut in the ground. I am not really worried about the ground as he is a big horse with a lot of strength and Shamardals tend to go on pretty much anything, but I think that he will be at his best on a sound surface.”

The Dewhurst is the centerpiece of the two-day Dubai Future Champions Festival on October 9-10.

With over £2 million (Dh11 million) in prize money on offer, the event combines world class two-year-old races with premier older age contests.

The first day will feature four Group races with top billing going to the £500,000 Dubai Fillies’ Mile, Europe’s joint most valuable Group 1 two-year-old race. It will also be the Autumn Ladies Day featuring the Best Dressed Ladies Competition sponsored by the official Fashion Partner, the Spa at Bedford Lodge Hotel.

Saturday will bring another three Group races, including the only other £500,000 juvenile Group 1 contest, the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes, not to mention the 177th renewal of the £250,000 Betfred Cesarewitch Handicap.
