Houston: Oman scored another success in flat racing when Azhar Al Wardi was named Best Jockey in the newly-instituted HH Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Darley Awards.
The accolade comes after Fatima Al Manji's superb win in the HH Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak IFAHR Cup women's ride.
Al Wardi was all smiles as she received the award from Omar Al Shamsi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the UAE Embassy in the US, in Houston on Sunday night.
She is the first winner of this global award for women associated with Purebred Arabian racing.
"This is the beginning of the success for Gulf lady jockeys and hopefully it will continue and we can achieve better results and be more consistent," Al Wardi tolf Gulf News after receiving the award.
