The spirit of giving seems to be Meydan Racing Committee Chairman Malih Al Basti’s chant when it comes to philanthropy.

While Newmarket Racecourse in England will enjoy the patronage of his rapidly-expanding company, Al Basti Equiworld, who have become official sponsors of all Owners and Trainers facilities for the 2015 season, Greatwood racehorse welfare charity in the UK is also set to benefit from his largesse.

In short, Equiworld will facilitate the organisation to expand their care and research programs that use ex-racehorses to educate disadvantaged children and young adults aged 5-24 with Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND).

Racegoers in the UAE will remember Al Basti Equiworld for their long-standing commitment to sponsoring the popular ‘Best Turned-Out Horse’ competition during race meetings at Meydan Racecourse. Through the well-liked initiative, that was launched several years ago, more than 300 grooms working in the UAE have been rewarded for the care and attention that they bestow on race horses.

The ‘shining competition’, as it is referred to among the stable staff, has proven to be a big behind-the-scenes hit by throwing up several multiple winners who have seen their profiles rise amongst their peers.

Sport needs programs that can empower even the smallest individual or those people on the suburbs and with their twin support of Greatwood charity in particular, Al Basti Equiworld, who have already carved a niche for themselves as pioneers of the equine industry in the Middle East region, have demonstrated their allegiance to aiding the horse racing at all levels, globally.

They have championed grooms, fans, officials, race meetings, horse sales and what have you, in the UAE, the UK and as far off as Australia. And they have not yet finished.

Newmarket and Greatwood are just two examples of how far they are prepared to go, to bolster a burgeoning portfolio of collaborations that have encompassed Newbury Racecourse and the Eagle Farm in Brisbane.

On a personal level Al Basti is a passionate owner as well. Back in 2005 Nasheej gave him a pair of Group race victories when successful in the Sweet Solera Stakes (G3) at Nebury and May Hill Stakes (G2) at Doncaster before he ran a brave race to finish third behind Speciosa in the 2,000 Guineas the following year.

It was the best result of horses racing in his white silks. This year he has already tasted success with Stunned at Chelmsford and Desert Force on Friday at Newbury.

In a way it is a small, but pleasing reward for all the Al Basti Equiworld endeavours. Success can only breed success and we look forward to hearing more about a brand that can only get better.
