Dubai: Dino Varkey was in red-hot form as he carried his partner Sharam Shamsaee to victory in the Carpetland Monthly Open at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club yesterday.

Varkey sunk an amazing seven gross birdies to secure a total of 46 points which was just enough for him and Shamsaee to win on the better inward nine pushing Mads Thuesen and Patrick Morrow into second place.

Just one point behind in 3rd place, with an impressive total of 45, were Mark Dennehy and Robert Weight. All six winners will now qualify for the grand final in 2008.

Other prizewinners for the day were again Dino Varkey with the longest drive, Tejan Fadlu Dean with nearest the pin and Gary and Estelle Byrne for most golf.

Pat Casserly won the raffle for a Carpetland rug out of the sixty competitors that played today. This was the first tournament in the Carpetland series for 2007/2008 .

The Carpetland Open for August will be held on Saturday 25 at 1.30pm. Running alongside the stretch of water from which it takes its name, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club is an 18-hole golf resort and is a true golfers' paradise, which in November 2005 was voted one of the top 100 must play golf courses in the world by UK magazine Golf World.
