Dubai: Four golfers will compete in the Asian Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) junior championships at Sunrise Golf and Country Club in Taiwan on Tuesday.

Two girls and two boys will take part in the 72-hole (three round) mixed team competition. Representing the UAE will be Reema Al Heloo and Tara Al Marzouqi for the girls and Mohammad Al Hajeri and Mohammad Abdullah Saeed for the boys.

Each of the three rounds will see one male and one female represent each country. Teams will be grouped with a different country each day. The first round will be a four-ball followed by a second round of foursomes and a final round of individual gross score. Teams will be drawn against one another by seeding on the final day.

Coming off a team gold at the GCC Ladies Golf Championship in Bahrain, Reema and Tara will be looking for a strong performance in Taiwan. Reema also won the gold medal in the individual category in Bahrain.

For the boys, Saeed will be competing in his first international golf event out of the UAE, while the more experienced Al Hajeri will be looking to make his mark among the top players.

Travelling with the juniors will be Khalid Mubarak Al Shamsi, UAE National Team Manager and Greg Holmes, UAE National Team Head Coach.

“The girls had a strong 2015/16 season and this will be a good test for them leading into the 2016/17 season that starts in October,” said Al Shamsi.

“These juniors just completed a two-week summer camp in Germany in preparation for this championship and the upcoming season. The Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) has invested a lot of time into junior golf and our National Junior Development Program (NJDP), and having four players competing in this event is a good example of that.”
