Dubai: UAE national team golfers will receive elite coaching at Jumeirah Golf Estates’ European Tour Performance Institute (ETPI) as part of a three-year agreement with the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF).

The initiative will see UAE national teams, which consist of 17 players across men’s, women’s and junior squads, benefit from the state-of-the-art facilities at Jumeirah Golf Estates, home of the European Tour’s Race to Dubai season-ending DP World Tour Championship.

George O’Grady, chief executive of the European Tour, said it was important for the tour to encourage local golf.

“It is exciting to be able to show a genuine golf legacy from all The European Tour activities in Dubai and the UAE,” he said. “It is one of our models to embrace the local golfing bodies and national golfers when we travel the world organising tournaments.

“We first came to Dubai in 1989 and it is important to show our commitment to Dubai in the light of Dubai’s support of The European Tour in various activities over the last 25 years. We wish the UAE National Golf Teams and the Emirates Golf Federation all the best and thank our partners in this initiative DP World and Jumeirah Golf Estates.”

Khaled Mubarak Al Shamsi, EGF general secretary, said the move would allow local players to meet their potential.

“We are extremely grateful for the support of DP World, the DP World Tour Championship, The European Tour and Jumeirah Golf Estates in giving our UAE National Golf Teams the best possible chance of succeeding on the world stage. The European Tour Performance Institute is a truly state-of-the-art facility and one of the best anywhere in the world so it is a fantastic opportunity for our local golfers. We are proud to call it the ‘Home of the UAE National Golf Teams.”
