Dubai: Tiger Woods could sign a new three-year contract to play at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic till 2014, if golf in DUBAi have their way. Arguably the greatest golfer in the world, the 35-year-old didn't exactly cover himself in glory at the Emirates Golf Club last weekend as he finished tied 20th, his worst finish here and was also fined by the European PGA Tour for spitting on the greens. But according to Mohammad Juma Bu Amim, vice-president and CEO of golf in DUBAi, the American superstar could be back next year if things go according to plan.
Speaking exclusively to XPRESS, Bu Amim said: "We would love to have Tiger back playing here next year. We are in talks with his management team and hope to finalise a deal within the next month. Ideally we would want to sign a three-year deal which would have him playing here till 2014.
"But then it all depends on the European Tour schedule for 2012. Already this year, the Omega Dubai Desert Classic has been pushed back by a week and who knows when it will be held next year. So, once the schedule is decided, we will sit with his management again," he added.
Woods first played in Dubai in 2001 and thereafter played five times including this year and, according to Bu Amim, he is definitely in demand irrespective of how he is playing at the moment. "Everybody wants him to play in their tournament. The PGA Tour want him and the European Tour want him and it's easy to see why. I hope next year's calendar is such that he can commit to playing in Dubai again," he said.
