Dubai: Sophie Gustafson will have to guard against friendship interfering with competitive urges when the Swede sensation joins her illustrious compatriot Annika Sorenstam in a star-studded line-up for Dubai Ladies Masters which gets under way at the Emirates Golf Club from December 8 to 14.

Emotions could get in the way as Gustafson will be challenging the defending champion in an event billed as the 'Sorenstam farewell party'.

The healthy rivalry between the 'super Swedes' will certainly be one of the major highlights of the Ladies European Tour's season-ending event in Dubai. It's difficult to predict how the script will unfold, but Gustafson will feel entirely comfortable playing in the high-pressure situation.

The winner of 22 professional titles, including four on the LPGA Tour, and over $5 million in earnings, Gustafson has been a picture of consistency ever since she turned pro in 1992.

The winner of the LET's New Star Money List 2007 Order of Merit, Gustafson finished tied 15th in Dubai last year and will certainly be hoping for a better finish.

She appears in good touch this season having posted five top-10 finishes in LPGA and earning $646,303.

"Sophie's dedication to the game and her tremendously successful international career make her one of the most sought-after players on the tour," said Mohammad Juma Buamaim, vice-chairman and CEO of 'golf in DUBAI', promoters and organisers.
