Doha : The Commercialbank Qatar Masters, presented by Dolphin Energy has won a major honour at the first Arabian Sponsorship Awards in recognition of the ongoing success of the European Tour event.

Representatives of the Qatar Golf Association (QGA) — which stages the event in association with the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and title sponsors Commercialbank — collected the prestigious sponsorship award in the "Business to Business" category at a gala ceremony staged at the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.

The Commercialbank Qatar Masters saw off strong challenges from Etihad Airways' sponsorship of the 2009 Abu Dhabi Corporate Masters and Mubadala's sponsorship of Scuderia Ferrari to land the top honour in the category.

"This award is a fitting reward for all of the hard work put in by every member of the team behind what we firmly believe to be the country's leading sporting occasion," said QGA President Hassan Al Nuami.

"Not only does it show how far the event has come in such a short time, it is also a tribute to the backing of our family of local and international sponsors who have played a major part in its success."

At a glittering ceremony in the UAE capital, QGA's Abdullah Al Kuwari and Tournament Director Chris Myers accepted the award on behalf of the QGA.
