Abu Dhabi: Jonathan Sochart birdied the final two holes of the National Course at Abu Dhabi Golf Club to snatch victory from Bill Farrell in the Al Masaood October Monthly Medal.

Standing on the 17th tee, Sochart trailed Farrell by two strokes, but his stunning three, four finish for a one-over-par 73, saw him turn a two-stroke deficit into a single-stroke victory.

Another strong field took to the National Course on a Friday afternoon where the scoring proved to be as hot as the weather.

Farrell claimed top honours in the men's 0-14 handicap division following a back-nine count back with Louis Gosselin and James Hutcheson. All three men had returned three-under par scores of 69 nett.

Excellent score

In the 15-28 handicap division Roger Vial's one-under-par 71 led the way by a single shot from Robert Moore and Lee Woodley.

Susan Henderson's fine score of gross 80 saw her comfortably beat off all challengers for the ladies' leading gross prize.

Leading ladies' divisional prizes were won by Michelle Larter in the silver division with a score of 75, while Agnes Letier-Lacaze's excellent score of 70 was good enough to claim the top prize in the bronze division.

Meanwhile, Will Keiler finally tasted success during the latest round of the Men's Night Out Competition sponsored by GMP.

Keiler, who has in recent weeks had to endure the demise of the Australian rugby team at the World Cup, birdied the second and third holes of the Garden Course to claim outright wins in the weekly skins game.

In the main stableford competition, Mike Larter birdied six of the nine holes to walk away with the first prize. Larter's stableford points score of 18, playing in a format where points are only awarded for scores of birdie or better, saw him home by three points from club professionals Ernie Rellon and Paul Dennis.
