Dubai: The 2012 Shaikh Rashid Trophy — one of the most popular events on the UAE amateur golfing calendar — tees off on November 22.

Organised by the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) and sponsored by Jebel Ali Golf Resort, the tournament traditionally attracts entries from leading amateurs from the UAE and further afield.

Round one of the 54-hole men’s stroke play tournament will be held at The Els Club Dubai and the second round will be played at the Al Badia Golf Club. There will be a cut after 36 holes, with the top 30 and ties competing in the final round at Jebel Ali Golf Resort.

The event is a qualifier for the R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking and EGF Order of Merit points are granted to resident golfers who finish within the top 20.

Khalid Mubarak Al Shamsi, Secretary General of the Emirates Golf Federation, thanked main sponsor Jebel Ali Golf Resort and support sponsors Gulf News and Ernst & Young for their continued patronage. “It is encouraging to note that, despite a busy golfing calendar, we are receiving good support from golfers within the UAE and abroad,” he said.

“We hope to find a quality field as the event tees off on November 22 at The Els Club. An event of such stature cannot be hosted without sponsorship and we thank our loyal sponsors for their backing. The venue clubs, The Els, Al Badia and Jebel Ali Golf Resort, have offered us tremendous support in the past and we cannot thank them enough for welcoming us back to their courses.

“On behalf of Emirates Golf Federation and the Board of Directors, I wish all participants a great golfing experience. We look forward to engraving a new champion’s name on the perpetual trophy, as none of the past winners are in the field this year.”

The Tournament entry form is available on the EGF website www.emiratesgolffederation.com and has also been circulated to the golfing fraternity in the UAE as well to overseas national bodies. Entries close on Thursday, November 15.
