J. M. Roh mastered the BMW June Monthly Medal at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club on Friday. His nett-66 was four shots clear of the field that made the most of the extreme summer temperatures.

Roh won the overall medal prize and first place in Division A with his steady round that ensured a handicap cut from 12 to 11. Shahram Shamsaee, thanks to an excellent back nine of 34, won second place in Division A with a nett 70. The best gross score of the day went to Dino Varkey, with an exceptional 73 gross.

Division B saw a close contest between K .B. Park pipping T.K. Kwon for the medal as a result of a count back, to take first and second places, respectively, on nett 73.

J.S. Jung won the ladies' division with a nett 75 and J. A. Kang collected second place with her nett 76.

The June medal saw a welcome return of the junior members, who merited a division of their own to compete in and Ahmad Al Mosharrekh was victorious with his level par nett score of 71. Finishing in second place was Joel Neale on nett 74. The week also witnessed the hotly contested Orient Travel Monthly Medal, supported by KLM at Nad Al Sheba Club.

This tournament enjoys a sustained popularity and seems unwilting in the growing heat, as again 60 golfers descended upon the course to test their skills against the back nines' challenging water hazards.

Hard-fought

The ladies' division was as hard fought as ever, which ultimately came down to Jocelyn Lirio and Sung Ah Han, each with a nett score of 68.

Though after a countback, it was Sung Ah Han who emerged victorious.

In Division C, Paul Marriott battled the heat to win over Nile Awan's nett 70 with a nett 68.

Sameer Joshi took the Division B, with a great nett 66 keeping at bay the ever-present Jimmy Sangani with his nett 69.

The top group this month held identical scores to Division B, with Rory Mcrae taking the best nett comfortably over Mike Francis.

NASC's very own vice- captain George Liu, with a phenomenal 75, held the best gross score.

Carter and Phil share top honours

Yancey Carter and Sophie Phil returned the day's best gross scores, respectively, for the Volvo Monthly Medal. One of the most humid days of the year, a full field of 84 brave players took their chances on the National Course.

In the men's Division A, Yugo Abe triumphed with a nett 72, while Gerard Letier-Lacaze and Richard Kellie came in second and third with 73 and 74, respectively.
