Abu Dhabi: Organisers of Abu Dhabi Golf Championship 2010, at Abu Dhabi Golf Club's Par-72 National Course, are calling on the UAE's sports fans to get inside the ropes and experience the competition from the other side as volunteers.

As part of the scheme, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which is behind the European Tour-backed Championship, is offering volunteers the chance to fill a wide variety of roles, from marshals and walking scorers, to scoreboard carriers and leader-board operators.

And with European number one and winner of the 2009 Race to Dubai, Lee Westwood; two-time Abu Dhabi champion and world number seven, Paul Casey; Northern Irish young-gun and world number nine, Rory McIlory; Spanish sensation and world number 11, Sergio Garcia; Australian world number 14, Geoff Ogilvy and Colombian star and world number 23, Camilo Villegas already signed up, being a volunteer gives fans a unique chance to watch world-class action unfold.

"The Abu Dhabi Golf Championship has gone from strength-to-strength every year and is a major highlight on the golfing scene.

Up close

"This is something we could not have achieved without the continuing support of the community," said Faisal Al Shaikh, Head - Major Events Division, ADTA.

"Being a marshal represents a fantastic opportunity for all types of golf fans and outdoor sports enthusiasts to get up-close to some of the world's best golfers and enjoy the Championship from an unrivalled position," he added.

Currently gearing up for its fifth edition, the Championship continues to welcome back volunteers year-after-year.
