Perth: The PGA Tour of Australasia and European Tour will co-sanction a new tournament in Western Australia in February that will combine stroke play for three rounds and a 24-man match-play component over six holes on the final day.
The Australasian Tour said on Wednesday the World Super 6 Perth tournament, to be played at Perth’s Lake Karrinyup Country Club from February 16-19, will have a 36-hole cut as in regular tournaments. The leading 24 players after the third round will then advance to match play on Sunday, with a playoff to determine who moves on in case of ties.
The match-play component on the final day will also include some unique features. If any matches are tied after six holes, they will be decided by playing a new knockout hole — a 90-metre hole to be constructed at Lake Karrinyup, with a tee placed adjacent to the 18th fairway and utilising the 18th green.
The knockout hole will be played once and if a winner is not determined, the competitors will return to the new tee and take part in a nearest-to-the-pin contest to see who progresses to the next round, or in the case of the final match, wins the tournament.
