Muscat : Ian Morrison beat off a strong pack to win his maiden title at the 37th edition of the Muscat Open Golf Championship held over the weekend at the Ras Al Hamra'a Golf Club.

With an excellent birdie-par finish on the last three holes, Morrison scored 76 for a total of 152 and secured first spot.

Top golfers in Oman, including three-time Champion Aza'an Al Rumhy and defending Champion Ali Hamed were in the fray in this two-day event.

The field also included some international participants from the region. Puli Sharma edged ahead on the first day with an excellent score of 74, one shot ahead of Jilan Jenggi and Al Rumhy.

The ultimate winner, Morrison and Sachin Bawa were another shot away from the leader.

The top of the leader board was constantly changing on day two, the end of which saw five players come within a shot. Morrison pipped them all for the coveted prize. Four players ended on a score of 153 and the order had to be decided by count back.

Second place went to Ali Hamed while Sachin Bawa, who unfortunately had a somewhat cold putter on the last three holes, secured third place.

Jilan Jenggi saw his approach shot on the 18th hole just trickle into the water and finished with a double bogey. However, his excellent scoring over the two days earned him the victory in the net competition.
