Dubai: The Mena Golf Tour resumes after a five-month summer break with the Dubai Creek Open, round three of the ten-stage series, from September 13 to 16 at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club.

England’s Luke Joy will be out to defend his title having beaten New Zealand’s Trevor Marshall in a play-off after both tied on five-under 209 at this stage last year.

Entries for the event are expected to reach 120 golfers from 24 countries. England will be the most well-represented country with 30 entries, followed by Spain and Morocco with 11 players each.

“We are absolutely delighted with the response to the Dubai Creek Open,” said Mena Tour chairman Mohammad Juma Bu Amim. “The players have been key drivers behind the success of our tour and we look forward to welcoming them next month.

“It’s great to see many new players sign for the event, which is a tribute to the host venue, who spare no effort in presenting the course in top condition.”

The Mena Golf Tour was created in 2011 as a stepping stone in development from amateur to elite level. Each year one amateur and one professional player are crowned Order of Merit champion based on their results over the 10-stage series. The top three Arab amateurs and professionals are also recognised.

This year’s series started with two events in Morocco in March. It will end with the Mena Tour Championship finale at Al Ain Equestrian Shooting and Golf Club from November 8 to 11. Each event has a $50,000 prize fund with the exception of the finale, which is worth $75,000.
