Dubai: Sixteen of the world’s biggest hitters including three UAE wild cards will take part in the Long Drive World Series when it returns to Dubai’s Jumeirah Golf Estates on February 9.

The object of the game is to hit the ball the furthest off the tee for a chance to win a share of Dh94,500 (£19,000).

With bitter rivalries, big personalities, sudden-death knock outs and distances reaching over 400 yards combining with pyrotechnics, DJs, walk-on music, a licensed setting, food trucks and free entry, the event promises an entertaining evening like no other. Add in the unknown of three UAE wild cards and it’s an event where anything is possible.

Launched in Dubai last year to sell-out crowds, the series went on to generate global buzz with follow up events in the UK and Portugal.

Headliners for Dubai — one of 10 to be held globally this year — include Dubai defending champion Tim Burke from the US, UK champion Emil Rosberg of Sweden, Portugal champion Ryan Reisbeck of the US, two-time world champion Joe Miller from the UK, Ilija Djurdjevic of Serbia, Ryan Steenberg, Kevin Shook, Will Hogue and Maurice Allen all of the US, and Tommy Hug, James Tait and Scott Bevan all of the UK.

The event takes place from 7pm on February 9 at Jumeirah Golf Estates. Entrance is free with VIP packages available to purchase. Fans can also attend qualifiers from 10am and seeding from 3pm on the same day at the same venue.

Those wishing to compete for a wild card should register via http://www.longdriveworldseries.com/player-registration/ or simply show up on the day. The cost to participate is Dh996 (£200) and includes VIP tickets to the event and access to the players’ lounge during the event, among other benefits.
