Abu Dhabi: Khalid Al Mutawa of Abu Dhabi carded a gross score of 38 to win the ‘A’ division at the fifth Ajyal Golf Championship at the Yas Links Golf Club.

The league, which is open to all Emirati junior golfers, is held under the patronage of the Shaikh Diab Bin Saif Al Nahyan and Emirates Golf Federation (EGF), who believe the event is starting to bear fruit and is helping to produce promising players for the future.

The event was hosted on the Academy Course at Yas Link Golf Club in the capital. The par-three floodlit course plays more than 1,135 yards and is suitable for all ages or skill levels. The Yas Links Abu Dhabi Championship Course and Academy Course were both designed by golf course architect Kyle Phillips.

The ‘A’ Division, played over nine holes, saw Al Mutawa carding four bogies before winning by five strokes. Finishing in second place was Reema Al Heloo of Dubai with a gross score of 43 while in third was Dubai’s Mohammad Abdullah Saeed with a gross of 44.

In the ‘B’ Division, played over six holes, Alia Emadi of Dubai after a gross score of 33, which featured one bogey and two double-bogeys and was enough to win by six strokes.

Coming in second was Hamed Humaid of Ajman while Shaikha Shaikha Bint Diab Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi finished in third place. Both players shot a gross score of 39 but Humaid took the runner-up spot after a three-hole count back.
