Dubai: Welshman Jamie Donaldson is hoping to continue with his early season form that put him in the golfing limelight.

Donaldson was the toast in Europe’s Ryder Cup triumph at the Glenagles with an inch-perfect wedge shot on the 15th hole for a 4 & 3 win over Keegan Bradley earlier this summer. This was followed by a win at the Czech Republic Open, six top-five finishes to take his ranking up to 24 in the world.

Just before last weekend’s Turkish Airlines Open in Antalya, Donaldson had an outside chance of challenging Rory McIlroy for the 2014 Race to Dubai. But McIlroy, who has been in Dubai for the past ten days now, was assured of the title even without lifting a club as none of the challengers won with Donaldson currently lying in third behind defending champion and Jumeirah Golf Estates ambassador, Henrik Stenson.

“It’s been a great year. Obviously the seasons have been getting better as they have been going on. This year has been special in a lot of different ways, obviously mainly The Ryder Cup and qualifying for that. My rankings have improved this year again and I’m just looking to continue the form and have a great week and top it all off here,” Donaldson told media a day before the start of the season-ending DP World Tour Championship at the Earth course of Jumeirah Golf Estates.

However, Donaldson is pleased to be in such a strong position going into the DP World Tour Championship. “I always just look to improve on the year before and try to find things to help me be a better player. Every year I’ve reassessed where I want to be, what I want to be doing. I haven’t reassessed for next year yet because we are not finished this year. We have another event left, and I’ve got a few events before Christmas,” he noted.

“It’s a case of just sitting down at the end of the year, and reassessing for next year. Obviously I want to play better in Majors and that’s the main thing, World events after that, and just preparing to play to try and win more events. And then obviously keep going in that pattern and getting ready for trying to prepare myself to get in the next Ryder Cup Team,” he added.

With the season-ending title out of the way, Donaldson still sees the hunger in going for the DP World crown on Sunday. “It’s a massive week and it’s obviously the end of season finale. I love coming here and I’ve played well here before, so I am looking forward to it,” he said.
