Dubai: The Indian Golf Society’s (IGS) season wraps up this Thursday with the second Summer Open played at Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis Course.

Sponsored by Bentley, the season-ending event has again attracted a full field, promising a close contest at the home of the European Tour’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Team spirit will be the flavour of the day as the event, which tees off with a 1pm shotgun, follows the popular two-man Texas Shamble stroke-play.

The society has already organised three tournaments this season, beginning with their signature Independence Day Cup at the Montgomerie in October, which was followed by the IGS Corporate Tournament at the Creek in January and the IGS Pairs tournament at Al Badia earlier this month.

Charles Harmon and Nishit Patel combined effectively at Al Badia to take the honours with 64 points, edging their nearest challengers Vikram Tah and Nikhil Dhamani on a count-back with the team of Ashok Singh and Anish Bhatia settling for third a point adrift.

The IGS thanked players and the main sponsor Bentley for their continued support to the society events, which have grown in size and popularity.

George Duncan of Bentley said: “Golf is the fastest growing sport in the region, especially among Indian expatriates, and we are delighted to be associated with it. Tournaments, like the ones organised by the Indian Golf Society, provides us with an opportunity to promote our brand and socially interact with the members of the society. We have enjoyed a successful relationship with IGS and we hope to further build on it as move forward.”

The society also thanked sponsors, which include Anand Kapoor (Midcom), Mukesh Kochar (Rich Rice), D. Nath (Arabian International Partners Ltd), David Freeborn (Chivas) and Antoin Breene.
