Dubai: World No 2 golfer Henrik Stenson has signed a two-year deal with Jumeirah Golf Estates (JGE) to become the venue’s ambassador for golf and residential development.

The 38-year-old Swede will support the facilities’ domestic and global marketing activity, including personal appearances, media and public relations. As part of the deal, Stenson’s Tour apparel will now feature the JGE logo.

JGE has been a happy hunting ground for Stenson. The former Dubai resident followed up his FedEx Cup win on the US PGA Tour with victory in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai season-ending equivalent, the DP World Tour Championship at the venue last year, to record a historic trans-Atlantic double.

“I’m delighted to be working with Jumeirah Golf Estates,” said Stenson. “I have a longstanding association with Dubai ever since living there with my family, and since this time Jumeirah Golf Estates has become one of the world’s leading golf developments. I’m proud to be an ambassador for them.

“Last year was one of the greatest years of my career, capped off perfectly by winning the DP World Tour Championship and Race to Dubai titles at Jumeirah Golf Estates. I can’t wait to get back there and to stay in my new Dubai home.”

Yousuf Kazim, JGE general manager, said Stenson’s signing was just part of a series of developments at the facility. “Today’s announcement of Henrik joining us as an ambassador signals another positive stepping stone in the evolving development of Jumeirah Golf Estates,” said Kazim. “As residents continue to move into our community and membership grows, the next step will be the opening of the main clubhouse prior to the upcoming DP World Tour Championship in November 2014.”

Neal Graham, JGE general manager for club operations, said Stenson was the right man to help grow the brand. “We are into our sixth year sponsoring the European Tour and DP World Tour Championship, with a recently announced extension through to 2017,” said Graham. “I’m delighted that we’ll be able to amplify this sponsorship through our partnership with Henrik, who was the perfect ambassador choice for our business. We look forward to welcoming Henrik and his family to our community.”
