Dubai: Alex Noren is keen to forget last week’s victory at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa in order to give himself the best chance of winning the Race to Dubai at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship this week.

“It’s a new tournament, new grass and a new challenge,” said the Swede, who has won four events this season, three of which have come in as many months recently.

He’s now third in the Race to Dubai behind Henrik Stenson and Danny Willett, and closely followed by Rory McIlroy.

But to win the money-list, Noren would need a minimum of a top two finish in Dubai.

If Noren wins the year-ender, Stenson can still win the Race to Dubai by finishing second. And if Noren finishes second, Stenson would need to finish outside the top eight, while Willett would need to finish outside the top two.

“As a golfer you’re always focusing ahead and obviously it’s nice coming off the back of a victory last week.

“But it’s a new week and I’m not focusing too much on results, just trying to get my game in shape.”

Of the permutations, Noren, who has won four and made eight top 10 and five top five finishes in 22 outings this season, added: “I take it as it comes, I’ve never really been into looking at numbers.

“If someone has the week of their lives, it’s quite tough for me to beat that.

“But I don’t look at that. The biggest question between me and my coach now is how we’re going to hit that certain shot, what went well last week and what didn’t, and keeping that going. It’s more about preparation than the numbers.”
