Abu Dhabi: US golfer Rickie Fowler can’t wait to get going in his first European Tour in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, which tees off Thursday. Fowler had a superb 2014, becoming only the third player to finish in the top five in all four of the majors after Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

“Definitely excited to be here as I haven’t played on the European Tour, so excited to kind of expand that and look forward to more trips to this part of the world and throughout Europe in the near future,” said Fowler, who will play alongside Rory McIlroy and Italian Matteo Manassero in the opening two rounds here.

“So far, everything’s been great here. Course looks awesome. Played nine holes yesterday and as far as coming over here beforehand, all I heard were good things. So I’m definitely excited for the week.”

The American was involved in some great contest with the World No 1 McIlroy last year and was already looking forward to renewing the battle with the Irishman.

“Yes, obviously Rory is the best player in the world right now, and obviously proved that last year. Definitely looking forward to 2015, having some great matchups with him and also with some of the other great young players. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
