Dubai: Melissa Reid, who singled out Laura Davies as the inspiration for her own decision to play golf for a living, is paired with the all-time British great in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters Challenge Match — to be held at the Emirates Golf Club today.

The match, which showcases top six marquee players competing in the Ladies European Tour's season-ending event, will also see Michelle Wie team up with Christina Kim.

Sophie Gustafson joins young US prodigy Alexis Thompson as they put on a special "short game clinic" at the par-3 course, starting at 6pm.

New British hope Reid and Davies, pairing in a Solheim Cup match earlier this year, defeated Brittany Lang and Michelle Wie 4 and 3 that also saw the British veteran overtake Annika Sorenstam to become all-time record points scorer with 24.5 at Killeen Castle.

With US superstar Wie also in the field, the greensomes match will have added excitement even though it's billed as a fun affair aimed at providing fans with an opportunity to see the game's biggest stars up close and personal. All the fans will have an easy access to the course and they will be allowed to carry cameras and can take photos of their favourite stars during the challenge match.

Meanwhile, golf in DUBAi, the promoters and organisers of the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters, have made elaborate arrangements to ensure fans enjoy the proceedings on all four days of the main tournament, starting on Wednesday.

"We would like to encourage more and more golf fans to come to the Emirates Golf Club and cheer top professional lady golfers who would be displaying their classic swing," said Mohammad Juma Bu Amim, vice-chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi.

Golf in DUBAi is backed by Omega as the title sponsor and Dubal (Dubai Aluminium) as the sponsor. The co-sponsors are CNN, Gulf News, Emirates NBD, Mercedes-Benz, Jumeirah and Wasl.
