Abu Dhabi: Barely four weeks remain until the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open (FBMLO) gets underway at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi from November 1-4.

The $550,000 (Dh2 million) Ladies European Tour event with a field of 126 top female golfers will be held under the patronage of Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Wife of the late President Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union, for the second year running.

Entrance is free and there will be plenty of on-site family-orientated activities from crazy golf to street golf and paint golf, as well as cricket, rugby and fitness clinics. There’s also a chill-out lounge and healthy food trucks on offer.

Aref Al Awani, general secretary at Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) said: “The FBMLO continues to feature on the global agenda as not only one of the most important stages for female golfers, but also underlines Abu Dhabi’s position as a global sports destination.”

The Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy (FBMA) is partnering with the ADSC to oversee the tournament and ensure that sports, including golf, become embedded in local culture.

The importance of having a family focused offering at this year’s tournament further highlights FBMA’s strategic vision towards youth, according to FBMA board member Mai Al Jaber.

“I believe that by making the tournament so enticing for families to attend, the next generation of young girls can be inspired to take up the game. Introducing youth to sports in a fun and exciting environment often yields further interest and encourages long-term participation from a young age,” she said.
