Countback tips betterball strokeplay competition

Better back nine wins it for Nyberg and Kumar

Dubai: Peter Nyberg and Dileep Kumar scored a great betterball strokeplay score of nett 65, -6 under par, to win the Carpetland Monthly Open at Dubai Creek on Saturday.

A countback was required to determine the winning pair and Nyberg's and Kumar's better back nine of nett 33 managed to tip the scales and allow them to take home the trophy.

Narrow miss

Just missing out was the pairing of Ashok Kumar and Suresh Shewakramani who also shot a nett 65 and missed out by three shots with their back nine of nett 36.

Alone in third place was the father-and-daughter team of Sergie and Serifa D'Souza who carded a nett 66, -5 under par, to claim the final placing to be invited back for the grand finals in May 2011.

Afshin Khiabani won nearest the pin on the fifth hole with a sweetly struck iron shot to several feet. Teejan Dadlu Deen won the longest drive for the day on the 12th hole.

Next months Carpetland Monthly Open is set for Saturday, October 9 for a 1pm shotgun start.
