Dubai: Scott Campbell was crowned overall champion at the end of the 24th Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup held at The Montgomerie and Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club last weekend.

Campbell produced two outstanding rounds for a two-day total of 84 Stableford points to clinch top honours in this annual competition that attracted more than 90 golfers from the duty free industry this year.

Campbell ended the first day at the Address course at The Montgomerie with 40 points, and then produced an exceptional 44 points on the second day at the Dubai Creek to be crowned the 2016 Dubai Duty Free Golf World Cup champion on a countback from overnight leader, Niall McLoughlin.

“I’m shocked to have won such a prestigious event. It was an amazing two days and I’m already looking forward to next year’s event,” Campbell said after picking up his prize from Colm McLoughlin, Executive Vice-Chairman and CEO, Dubai Duty Free.

After losing on a countback to the overall champion, it was McLoughlin who prevailed in the Men’s Division to be named the overall local champion after rounds of 47 and 37 points.

Making the trip from abroad, the overall visitor winner was Dan Kongstead with a two-day total of 80 points, thanks to his solid round of 36 points on Day Two to win on a countback.

James Kfouri and Matthew Hammond managed 80 points, finishing in the overall runner-up and third place respectively with rounds of 45 and 35 points, with Kfouri finishing ahead of Hammond after his better back nine on the second day.

In the Ladies Division, Naema Maya prevailed to clinch the overall local winner for the second year in-a-row with a two-day total of 67 points, while Nancy Miller secured victory in the overall visitor winner category for the third year with her 74 points.

For the Ladies, it was Jassica Howells who got off to a great start at The Montgomerie with a superb score of 37 points to win the Day one ladies title leaving Catherine Boneli as runner-up with 35, while Jeanne Archer took the best gross title.

Carmel King found her form on the second day winning the Day Two top prize with a score of 27 stableford points leaving Charmaine Bruwer in the runners-up spot, while Vicki Smyth earned the best gross crown on the second day.

“The players thoroughly enjoyed the competitive and friendly atmosphere and the social interaction made it a good meeting place for those involved in the duty free industry. Thanks to my team at Dubai Duty Free and to Montgomerie and Dubai Creek Golf Club for another successful running of the Dubai Duty Free Golf Word Cup,” McLoughlin said at the presentation.

“We look forward to welcome you all back again and hopefully we will have even more players next year when we mark the tournament’s silver jubilee,” he added.
