Dubai: Juggie Brar lit up fireworks on the course with a solid golf swing as Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club welcomed their new Club Captain Joseph Andrade with the traditional drive in during the BMW Monthly Medal.

Playing his first medal event of the year, Juggie fired a stunning net 63 to the take the medal, a good six shots ahead of his nearest challenger Arshad Waheed.

In the Men's Division A, John Thomas (net 71) took the spoils from Patrick Morrow on a countback. Serifa D'Souza triumphed in the ladies division with a great net 68 with Ashaka Desai finishing runner up on a net 72. Charlie Stephenson produced the lowest gross score on the day (three-over-par 74). Brar attributed his victory to a positive mindset. "I didn't do anything different. The plan was the same: Hit it straight, hit it on the green, and make putts. Luckily, it worked on that day. Simple as that." he said.

Meanwhile, Miki Mirza and Paul King won the Carpetland Monthly Open held at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club on Saturday 22nd January. The low handicappers used their skills to score a 66, -5 under par better ball net score and take the direct route to the grand finals in May.

Runners up were the young brothers Anthony and Paul Saad with their net 67 and by virtue of a count back of the last three holes. Past champions Ashok Kumar and Suresh Shewakramani just missed out by one shot over the last three holes and finished in third place.

All top three pairs will now be invited back to compete at the grand final to be held in May with now only three more qualifying events left.

Next month's Carpetland Monthly Open is set for February 26 for a 13.00 shotgun start.
