Dubai: An asset management group is banking on golf being a key part of its promotion plans after the company agreed a deal to become a key sponsor of the forthcoming Omega Dubai Ladies Masters.

Asset Management Group, wasl, has teamed up with ‘golf in DUBAi’ for the women’s European Tour event at Emirates Golf Club from December 9 to 12.

China’s Shanshan Feng will return to defend her title in a field that includes England’s all-time great Laura Davies, two-time major winner Suzann Pettersen of Norway and new English sensation Charley Hull.

Hesham Al Qassim, wasl’s CEO, said: “We are excited to join hands with ‘golf in DUBAi’ with the common objective of promoting women’s golf and showcasing our golfing facilities of international standard to a global audience.

He suggested international events like the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters had played a part in “cementing” the emirate’s reputation as a destination of choice for golfers. Owned by Dubai Real Estate Corporation (DREC), wasl was created in 2008.

Mohammad Juma Bu Amim, Vice-Chairman and CEO of golf in DUBAi, said: “It is indeed a matter of pride for us that we have the backing of a company that shares our mandate and view of golf as the ideal vehicle to project Dubai to an international audience.”
