Dubai: The Al Musharrekh brothers produced some solid golf to dominate the UAE Nationals Monthly Medal tournament at Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club.

Young Hassan upstaged big names in the field to win the overall gross title with a tidy five-over-par 76, while his elder brother Ahmad reigned supreme in Division One, taking the honours with a net 81.

Both Hassan and Ahmad couldn't have asked for better preparation in the run-up to next week's 14th GCC Championship in Qatar, where they form part of the UAE squad.

Fast-improving Hassan could have done even better in the gross division, but a triple bogey on the closing hole marred his otherwise very consistent round. Still, it was good enough to beat his nearest challenger, Saeed Malek, by three strokes. Salem Bin Dasmal finished third on a gross 87.

Ahmad Al Musharrekh, who recently featured in the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, held sway in Division One, while Hassan Al Qemzi held centre-stage in Division B, winning the title with a net 76. Shawqi Sajwani walked away with the Division C title with a net 79.

The Monthly Medal, organised by the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF), drew a good response, with almost all the leading UAE national players turning up for the event.

"I thank all the players for making the event a great success," said Saeed Al Budoor, general manager of the EGF. "I am, in particular, pleased with the rapid improvement shown by Hassan in recent times.
