Dubai: Khalid Yousuf, Abdullah Al Musharrakh and Faris Al Mazroui will represent the UAE in the World Amateur Team Championship for the Eisenhower Trophy, to be held in Adelaide from October 16 to 18.

The three players were selected on the basis of their performances in the qualifying rounds, which were organised by the UAE Golf Association at the Jebel Ali Golf Resort and Spa and Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club.

Khalid topped the qualifiers, which attracted 10 leading UAE national golfers, with a total of 143, a good eight shots ahead of Abdullah (151) and 14 off third-placed Faris. Two best scores from each player were counted towards the final score.

Khalid, the only UAE national player to have ever competed in the Dubai Desert Classic early this year, appeared in good nick during the qualifier when he followed up his 74 in the first round with a three-under-par 69 to equal course record at Jebel Ali.

Abdullah's two best rounds included 75 and 76 while Faris completed the line-up with rounds of 80 and 77.

Despite hot and humid conditions, the qualifiers produce an intense fight for the top places and afforded the players a chance to hone their competitive edge in the run up to the prestigious championship in Australia.
