Congratulations to the Montgomerie Golf Club Dubai Scratch Team, who won the Scratch League Players Division Championship!
In the tight and tense second leg of the final, on home soil, MGCD did enough to take a sensational win over Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club and become champions for the first time in 10 years!
Team Monty got the first point on the day on the board when Robbie McCarthy and Nathan Quigley closed out and emphatic 7 & 6 win, scoring 8 birdies in 12 holes on their way to victory. Team Monty were soon 2-0 up for the day when Omar Souab and Jey Jeon secured their point, when Jey birdied Hole 17, for a 2 & 1 win.
Tension then rose as Rob Willoughby & Rayan Ahmed narrowly suffered defeat, the match that was decided on the last hole, after a very tight game against strong opposition.
This meant everything hung on the final game with Montgomiere needing half a point to win the championship.
Scratch team captain Farhan Yaqub and Joon Eun tee’d their match up on Hole 18 with the standings A/S. Watched on by 30+ supporting members the pressure was on, but Joon rose to the occasion producing a great two putt birdie on the par 5 last to guarantee the half point that was needed for the victory!
Fantastic celebrations followed with the scratch team & supporting members enjoying the moment!
Next season the team will play in the Premier Scratch League Division after gaining promotion!
