Abu Dhabi: Saudi Arabian football official Abdullah Al Doubel passed away following a sudden heart attack at dawn yesterday.

Al Doubel, Chairman of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Competitions Committee, was with the Saudi official delegation to the Gulf Cup.

He was sitting with the contingent at the Emirates Palace Hotel following the UAE-Saudi Arabia semifinal when he felt pain in his chest.

He was quickly taken to Khalifa Hospital in the capital but passed away on the way there.

Al Doubel was the youngest member of Fifa's Executive Committee during the tenure of Joao Havelange.

He was also a key member of the Saudi Arabian Football Association and the AFC for many years.
