GLASGOW: Rangers manager Ally McCoist found himself under an increasingly harsh spotlight on Wednesday after the fallen Glasgow giants lost 3-2 to Alloa in the Scottish Challenge Cup semi-finals.
Alloa came from two goals down to win at the Indodrill Stadium, condemning Rangers to a premature exit from the lower-league cup competition for the third season in succession.
With Rangers currently nine points adrift of leaders Hearts in the second-tier Championship, McCoist is likely to face more uncomfortable questions about his ability to restore the Ibrox club to former glories.
Asked if he would now consider resigning, McCoist told journalists: “No, I’m too concentrated on the game here.
“My decision is to look at the performance tonight, particularly after we went 2-0 up, then sit down with the boys and go through it.
“It won’t be a pleasant meeting, but it has to be done and it will be done.”
Goals from former Scotland striker Kenny Miller and Dean Shiels put Rangers in control early in the second half.
But two goals in three minutes from Greig Spence and Ryan McCord brought Alloa level before Spence gave Barry Smith’s side a first ever victory over Rangers with a dramatic 89th-minute winner.
Alloa, who trail Rangers by 17 points in the Championship, will now play Livingston in the final on April 5 at a venue to be decided.
