London: Charlton Athletic have given Bournemouth a tongue-in-cheek warning that their promotion to the Premier League should not be considered a formality ahead of the teams’ Championship match on Saturday.

Bournemouth all but secured promotion to the English top flight for the first time in their history after winning 3-0 at home to Bolton Wanderers on Monday.

It left third-place Middlesbrough needing an unprecedented 20-goal swing in goal difference on the final day to pip Bournemouth to an automatic promotion place, but Charlton claimed that could not be ruled out.

“Bournemouth celebrating like they’ve completely ruled out a 19-0 defeat at The Valley on Saturday,” Charlton wrote on their official Twitter account. “We’ll see...”

The tweet had been retweeted nearly 54,000 times and favourited over 31,000 times by Tuesday morning.

Middlesbrough, three points below Bournemouth with a vastly inferior goal difference (+31 to +50), host Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday.
