Abu Dhabi: Andriy Shevchenko believes Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato can revive his flagging career and shine at his former club Chelsea.

Pato moved to Stamford Bridge on Friday on loan from Brazilian side Corinthians until the end of the season but has failed to build on the initial promise he showed at Italian giants AC Milan, where he scored 51 goals in 117 appearances between 2007 and 2012.

Shevchenko, 39, played with Pato at the San Siro during his second spell in Italy between 2008 and 2009 and is a great admirer of the 26-year-old’s ability

“I think he has great quality,” the Ukrainian, who scored nine times in 48 games for Chelsea between 2006 and 2009, told Gulf News after Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Invitational golf pro-am at Yas Links.

“Pato is very fast, probably one of the fastest players I’ve ever seen. He’s been injured, but I hope he finds his best form and performs very well for Chelsea.”

Pato could feature on Wednesday night when Chelsea travel to Watford in the league.
