London: Norwich’s Congo midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu will miss the start of the season after suffering a fractured foot, the Premier League club revealed on Monday.

Mulumbu, who joined Norwich on a free transfer earlier in pre-season, sustained the metatarsal injury in last Saturday’s friendly against Brentford and will be out for “several weeks”.

The former West Bromwich Albion midfielder was due to undergo an operation on Monday.

“Unfortunately Youssouf has a fractured metatarsal, which requires immediate surgery,” Norwich manager Alex Neil told the club’s website.

“We anticipate his recovery should take several weeks and this is something we will be able to assess further after the operation has taken place.”

Norwich play Crystal Palace at Carrow Road on Saturday on their return to the top-flight after a one-year absence.
