Dubai: The du LaLiga HPC Under-18 team were crowned champions of the second season of the UAE FA Academy League at the weekend after a final face off against City FC.
Du LaLiga took home the title in the final after an undefeated winning run throughout the season to top the standings ahead of City City FC.
Tensions ran high as du and City squared up for the championship decider.
The match kicked off to a roar of support from friends and family who had come out to support both sides. With equal possession in the midfield and both teams driving the play with a relentless determination, it was City that broke through 18 minutes into the first half with Jack Manson’s free kick rocketing into the corner. Keeping their composure, the du boys drove on and Yahia Iraqi’s beautifully placed corner allowed striker Lotfi Machou to head home the equaliser.
After the break, a poor tackle by Max Foster in the penalty area gave du a penalty and Mohammed Haytham stepped up to convert. The victory meant du LaLiga are champions for the second year running.
