Glasgow: Former Bradford and Motherwell boss Stuart McCall has taken over as manager of troubled Scottish Championship club Rangers until the end of the season.

McCall’s arrival at Ibrox came on the same day that Kenny McDowall announced his departure after an unsuccessful spell as caretaker boss.

McDowall replaced Ally McCoist as temporary manager earlier this season, but he was already serving his 12-month notice period after quickly handing in his resignation.

His departure and McCall’s arrival were confirmed on Thursday as Rangers look to make up ground in the race to secure a Championship play-off place.

In a statement on their official website, the club said: “Rangers can today confirm that Stuart McCall has been appointed as manager of the club on a short-term contract until the end of the season.

“As part of the move, Kenny Black will become his assistant manager after working with McCall at Motherwell from 2011.

“McCall met the players at Murray Park this afternoon and took his first training session in preparation for Saturday’s game against Livingston at Ibrox.”
