Rio de Janeiro: Former Netherlands international midfielder Clarence Seedorf is in talks with Brazilian top flight football club Atletico Paranaense about its vacant coaching position.

Seedorf and his agent, Bruno Paiva, arrived in the southern Brazilian city of Curitiba on Thursday for talks with Atletico Paranaense officials, according to Globo Esporte.

The 41-year-old has been without a club since last December, when he ended a six-month spell in charge of Chinese Super League outfit Shenzhen FC.

His only other coaching experience came in 2014 when he briefly managed AC Milan.

Seedorf, who speaks fluent Portuguese, has had a long connection with Brazil. His wife, Luviana Seedorf, is from Rio de Janeiro and he ended his playing career at local club Botafogo, whom he represented from 2012 to 2014.

Surinam-born Seedorf is considered one of the Netherlands’ finest ever midfielders and was capped 87 times for his adopted country.

His club career included spells with European giants Real Madrid, Inter Milan and AC Milan.

Atletico Paranaense finished 11th in this year’s Brazilian Serie A standings and have been searching for a coach since the resignation of Fabiano Soares earlier this month.
