Zurich: Michel Platini’s appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against his six-year Fifa ban will also be attended by Sepp Blatter.
Platini’s office said on Tuesday that Blatter has been called by Fifa as a witness. The case will be heard on Friday in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Platini, the Uefa president, has been suspended for receiving a payment of two million Swiss francs (Dh7.3 million) in 2011 from Blatter, who was then the Fifa president. Blatter has also been suspended for six years, and both men deny any wrongdoing.
Blatter is also appealing to CAS, but his case will be heard at a later date. He has been replaced as Fifa president by Gianni Infantino.
Charges of corruption and falsification against Platini have been dropped by Fifa, which accuses him of conflict of interest and lack of loyalty.
Platini’s office added that, despite Fifa’s opposition, CAS will conduct Friday’s hearing in French. Platini is French and has limited English-speaking abilities.
