Paris: France’s top three divisions will opt for two up-two down next season in an overhaul of the promotion and relegation system, a source at the country’s professional league (LFP) said.

At the moment, three clubs are promoted and relegated from each division in common with many European leagues.

“It’s an important decision for the future and the modernisation of football,” Frederic Thiriez, the president of the LFP told l’Equipe.fr.

“This has been almost unanimously agreed. The idea is that investors need a little more security. Three up, three down, it’s too much.”
