Madrid: Patrice Evra has been suspended by Olympique de Marseille following a scuffle with a supporter before Thursday’s Europa League game at Vitoria Guimaraes, the Ligue 1 club said on Friday.

Marseille said in a statement that the France international had been summoned to an interview that will lead to disciplinary action.

Video footage showed a Marseille player aiming a kick at a group of fans during a scuffle behind one of the goals but the club did not mention the kick.

France fullback Evra has been regularly targeted by Marseille fans since joining from Juventus during the close season and his poor performances have led coach Rudi Garcia to drop him from the starting line-up.

“As a professional and experienced player, Patrice Evra could not react in such an inappropriate manner,” the statement said after acknowledging that Evra has been provoked by Marseille fans who insulted him.

“Pat has experience and he must not react. It’s obvious,” Garcia said.

“Patrice is more than experienced and we can’t respond, obviously, to insults as low as they might be and as incredible as they might be because they come from one of our supporters.”

Rennes, meanwhile, moved up to tenth place in the French league after beating Bordeaux 1-0 at home on Friday.

The goal came in the 11th minute, when Bordeaux midfielder Jeremy Toulalan tried to cut out a corner and ended up heading the ball into his own net.

After the win, Rennes president Rene Ruello announced on Canal Plus television that he tendered his resignation, saying “another era is starting.”

Ryad Boudebouz scored an 87th-minute equaliser as Real Betis came back from two goals down to draw with Getafe 2-2 in the Spanish league on Friday.

The Algerian midfielder scored with a low shot from outside the area, his first goal since joining the club in the offseason.

Markel Bergara opened the scoring for the visitors with a header into the top corner, and Francisco Portillo added to Getafe’s lead about 15 minutes later with a shot from inside the area.

Antonio Sanabria put Betis on the board with a shot from outside the area midway through the second half at Benito Villamarin Stadium in Seville.

“We were never comfortable in the first half but we improved our attitude in the second and ended with a point,” said Sanabria, who has seven goals in 10 league matches.

The result left Betis in eighth place and Getafe in 10th.

In Bundesliga, Sebastien Haller’s late winner helped Eintracht Frankfurt beat struggling Werder Bremen 2-1 in the opener of the 11th round in the season.

The ‘Eagles’ have recorded their fifth victory of the season on Friday after Sebastien Haller shocked resilient Bremen, who have suffered their second straight loss to remain in the drop zone.

Bottom side Werder Bremen took the reins from the kick off whereas Eintracht Frankfurt needed some time to gain a foothold into the game.

However, despite a dominating opening period, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock against the run of the game as Ante Rebic had all time and space to drill the ball from the edge of the box into the top right corner with 17 minutes played.

The ‘Green-Whites’ were shocked but regrouped to restore parity eight minutes later when Frankfurt failed to clear the ball following a corner, allowing Niklas Moisander to poke home the equaliser between three defenders from four meters.
