Berlin: Cologne routed sixth-division Berlin-based BFC Preussen 7-0 on Saturday in the first round of the German Cup, as newly-promoted RB Leipzig were the only Bundesliga team to suffer a shock defeat.

Leipzig will make their debut in Germany’s top flight when the new season starts next weekend, but they were dumped out of the cup by neighbours and rivals Dynamo Dresden on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Second-division Dresden came from 2-0 down at home to take the game to extra-time. In the shootout, Leipzig captain Dominik Kaiser, who had converted a penalty to put RB 2-0 up in the first half of normal time, missed their fourth spot-kick to hand Dresden victory.
