Abu Dhabi: UAE’s star mid-fielder Omar Abdul Rahman ‘Amoory’ has assured his fans that he will try everything in his powers to be fit for Al Ain’s crucial AFC Champions League (ACL) quarter-final second leg away against Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal in Riyadh on September 11.

Amoory missed out the UAE’s last two World Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia and Iraq after he picked up an injury during training. UAE team’s chances of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia has been dashed, but Amoory’s club team can still progress to the ACL. In the first leg on August 29, Al Ain ended up splitting points with Al Hilal at home after dishing out a goalless draw.

Amoory’s presence will be vital for the purple brigade against the formidable Al Hilal, the Saudi League Champions, who are unbeaten so far in this year’s Champions League.

“The truth is I’m not at all happy as I couldn’t make myself available to play for the national team against Saudi Arabia and Iraq. I have always felt pride in playing for the UAE and it was unfortunate to miss out with injury,” said Amoory, adding that there were a few things that didn’t go as per plans in the World Cup qualifiers that dashed the team’s dream of qualifying for the World Cup.

“Personally I do not prefer to talk about the reasons. Sometimes, we have to accept the quality of the opposition as well. The team put up a good show against Saudi that saw us win three points, but against Iraq, we missed quite a few chances unfortunately,” added the Asian Player of the Year.

The ace playmaker went on to reveal that following his rehabilitation in Barcelona, doctors had advised a 10-day recovery period.

“As per doctor’s reports and following the rehab programme and treatment, I’m feeling better. I’m working on the strengthening programme under the guidance of the club team doctor and hopefully will be 100 per cent fit for the match,” said Amoory, who went through the drills without showing any discomfort.

The Al Ain skipper was confident of his team putting their best foot forward against Al Hilal and was glad that the sidelined Brazilian Douglas was back in the fold.

“Douglas is a quality striker and he has great scoring ability. He has shown great fighting qualities and his confidence will rise with each game. Though we did well in the match at home we couldn’t score but all the players have the ambition and aspiration to attain great heights,” revealed Amoory, whose team is aiming to go one better than last year. They lost 3-2 on aggregate to South Korea’s Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the final.
