Al Ain: UAE ace footballer, Esmail Mattar, says he is happy after being shortlisted for the Asian Football Confederation Player of the Year award.

"It is good to be recognised along with the top footballers in the continent," he said.

"Mind you it is as a result of the team work of my colleagues in both the UAE national team in the World Cup qualifiers and Al Wahda Club in the Asian Champions League." Mattar added to Gulf News yesterday.

"Just being nominated makes one happy. If you are regarded as one of the best 12 players in Asia, that is a big feat and despite the fact that I have been nominated before it never stops to thrill and please me.

"But I will be happier if we won a seat in the finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa more than winning the best player title," he said.

The title will be announced in Shanghai on November 25.
