- Coach Diego Maradona has issued an ultimatum to the board of Al Wasl in request for more transfer funds in order to stay fully competitive next season
Confirming the news, a club spokesperson said: "The new board of Al Wasl met today and decided to discontinue the services of Maradona for the new season of 2012-13. A decision on his replacement will be taken later."
The Argentine legend, incidentally, had a two-year contract with the club of which only one year was over. Asked about the contractual obligations, the spokesperson said: "There are of course exit clauses for both parties concerned."
The club had finished eighth in the etisalat Pro League last season and bowed out of Etisalat Cup and President's Cup at the knockout stages.
They, however, came agonisingly close to winning the GCC Champions League before losing the second leg final at home in tie-breaker.
